DEV-Talk 007: Taking Your Time Huh?
It’s been well over a month since my last post, and no free things or updates?! Fret not, I come bearing not only good news, but some tasty free stuff as well to compliment my new obsession:
DAGGERHEART.
If you’ve been following our design journey, especially as we’ve been exploring how to make modular setting guides and adventuring content, and you’ve read Daggerheart I think you can understand why I’m so into their system. From the difficulty scaling of skill checks to the organization of monsters and abilities, the system makes me feel like ever-so-often I’ve actually learned something about game design over the last year and some change.
As we’re preparing some of the administrative stuff behind the scenes for the Kickstarter part two, I was looking at a lot of different systems to use to show how our stuff can easily be converted into them and fit at most tables. When I got my copy of Daggerheart I knew within 1-2 hours of reading that this was going to be the flagship example of that, and after finishing the book I got to testing it out! I am gearing up to run a few one-shots to actually get my hands dirty on it, but after some paper testing and sanity checking I think I had a decent (theoretical) knowledge of the game enough to build in/with it.
And that brings us to what I’ve been up to for the last month or so, in which I’ve been converting the first part of our three-part adventure path into something that can be run for Daggerheart! We’ll be releasing a free version of this, along with a converted version of one of Ardenfell’s neighborhoods (currently in the works) alongside of it.
“But Michael” I hear you saying, “Where’s that tasty, free Daggerheart stuff you talked about if you’re still InDesign-ing the adventures and stuff?” Don’t fret my friend, because the first thing I worked on in this Daggerhearty journey is now completed, the City of Glass Campaign Frame! This 21-page frame has everything you need to get a game started and in Cealla and in the glorious city of Ardenfell! I’ve attached a copy of the PDF below along with the Inciting Incident battlemap, but enjoy some images as well to get an idea of what to expect for our conversions of the overall project when we re-release!
