DEV-TALK 004: All The Other Stuff
Hey there! We’ve made some solid progress over the last couple weeks, all things considered. Though looking back, most of what was accomplished was outside the editing/formatting/writing side and much more in the random video editing/social media/not making your website crap side of the house. As part of the Kickstarter release in March I wanted to get a video made for the post itself, and I can happily say… I was able to commission half of it. I wanted something that would kind of ‘zoom around’ the city map, highlighting each neighborhood with space to cut in some art of the locations. It still needs voice over work, music, and all the art cut-in scenes, which brought me to a very profound and unexpected realization.
I have to learn some video editing.
To be honest, it’s been a long time coming. I’ve had ideas for a few other projects tied to video creation (lore breakdown videos for example!) so I can’t say I’m too surprised. I think the larger takeaway is that a lot of this journey is DIY in ways you won’t realize until you’re in need of it. When we did our last DevJam to make Dustbound it was getting real sweaty with InDesign, and now I guess it’s going to be Davinci Resolve. Light whining aside I’m kind of excited to get started, and the timing with the whole new year & time off is pretty solid as well.
Big shout out to the DaVinci Resolve Mastery: The Ultimate Video Editing Bootcamp which I’ve started yesterday. I’m an impressive 5% in and can safely say I’ll have to probably watch it four times to glean anything of value, but we’re moving forward! Below is the current cut that we got done by @designcamp_ who were highly responsive and quick with getting this section completed and revised. Thanks again!
Lesson Learned: Don’t forget that for nearly everything that needs doing, you’ll probably have to learn how to do-it-yourself. But also remember that’s the charm of this whole thing, and that in the process of smashing your head against the wall learning something you’ve sucked at previously, you’re growing and stuff.
And growing is cool.
Now to make a few gallons of coffee as a bribe to the gods of hyperfocus to bless us with a few hours of uninterrupted learning. Oh! Before I forget, enjoy a small statblock & teaser for the reformatted Glasswork Hollow that is now in the final editing phase. Enjoy and happy holidays!
